Today has been a very exciting day for me. I found out that I might have somewhere to stay this summer in South Dakota--on a ranch, just like I have been hoping! Hebrews 11:1 :)
After that exciting realization, I had the chance to stop by the Life Sciences Undergraduate research fair, there is a whole sub-culture of nerds (like me) here at Mizzou. Kids, who take advantage of the opportunities "educational institutions" provide. They are not here for a degree, they are here for an education. They are pro-active and not passive. And they study things that interest them. A few examples: best methods for teaching Hispanic children math, niche marketing for beef, promotion and market for Herbal Oats (http://www.herbaloats.com/about.html) granola bars.
I was able to talk with researcher and part-owner Steve Adamski about his granola bar business, Herbal Oats, and about his research. He will be graduating in May and working part time while continuing to promote his business--plus, he gave me four free samples!
Its exciting for me to see people, who in the midst of this recession and all of the bad news and negativity in the media, have held onto their "sense of possibility."
And finally, I read that more people in the US start businesses each year than get married or have babies--a fact which dispels one of the myths about entrepreneurship--which is good news for me!
